He is a Professor in Chemical Engineering Department at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Perak, Malaysia. He was conferred a PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of Leeds, United Kingdom (1996). He was with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1989 as a tutor and was appointed as a lecturer in 1996 upon his return from University of Leeds. He joined UTP in 1997. He was the Head of Industrial Internship in 1998, Head of Chemical Engineering Department from 1999 until 2003, and Director for CO2 Management MOR from 2011 until 2013. Currently, he is the Head of Research Centre for CO2 Capture (RCCO2C) and Centre of Advanced Process Safety (CAPS). He is the author and co-authors of over 150 journal publications and presented more than 120 papers in conferences. He has 15 patents filed, 4 copyrights, 3 trademarks, 2 commercialization, and won 9 awards in exhibitions. He led and completed 16 university, 16 government and 10 industrial research grants. He had completed 11 QRA projects for industries and conducted 6 short-courses on QRA for industrial professionals. Total of 7 PhD and 12 MSc students have graduated under his supervision. His current research works are in the area of process safety and CO2-NG separation. In the area of Process Safety, his research works are in the area of Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), Process Safety Management (PSM), Human Factor (HF) and Inherent Safety (IS). The ultimate goal of the research is to prevent or minimize the major accidents due to fire, explosion and toxic releases in process plant that cause high fatalities, assets damage, pollute the environment, and tarnish the company and country's reputation. In CO2-NG separation, his research works are in the area of CO2 capture technology, specifically on absorption, adsorption and membrane. The research focus is on the CO2 capture technology development for high pressure and high CO2 content natural gas.
